Google launches its first Chrome OS-based desktop - the Chromebox
Google and Samsung have expanded the Chrome OS family of devices with the introduction of the first desktop computer based on Google's cloud-based OS. The Chromebox features the same cloud-centric focus of previous Chromebooks, but in a compact desktop configuration – meaning you'll need to provide your own mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
"Celebrate Rice" Photography Contest
A panoramic picture of Rice University's iconic Lovett Hall won first place in the "Celebrate Rice" photo contest held by the university's Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies. Neil Martin of West University Place received a $1,000 prize for his entry in the contest, which was held in conjunction with Rice's centennial year.
The contest winners were announced April 4 during a campus event at the Brochstein Pavilion.
Weakness Becoming Strength
A 10-year-old boy decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a devastating car accident. The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn't understand why, after three months of training the master had taught him only one move.
"Sensei," the boy finally said, "Shouldn't I be learning more moves?"
